Grants & Loans for Grand Isle Businesses
January 26th

The Friends of Grand Isle, Inc. (FOGI) has money available for small businesses in Grand Isle damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The funds, from the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation, will be in the form of no-interest loans up to $5,000, small business grants up to $2,000 and free technical assistance. The Friends of Grand Isle, Inc. (or FOGI) is a not-for-profit organization created to support small businesses and the community of Grand Isle.

No-interest loans and grants are available to small businesses to help restore business infrastructure, and to replace or rebuild damaged equipment, buildings, parking lots, and communication equipment.

Loans and grants may be issued to reduce the risks of damages from future hurricanes, and to assist in cleanup and debris removal. Loans and grants may also be made to assist small businesses in advertising, web site and digital communication, or purchasing needed inventories and supplies. Businesses will have two years from the date of the loan to repay the loan to FOGI. The grants will not need any repayment.

The Friends of Grand Isle will also sponsor free technical assistance meetings and workshops to small businesses to assist them with their business management and operations including bookkeeping, web-based advertising methods, and supply and inventory management.

These workshops and meetings will be conducted by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center Greater New Orleans Region (LSBDC). The meetings and workshops will be held on Grand Isle and tailored to meet the needs of your business.

FOGI estimates 170 Grand Isle businesses were in residence prior to Hurricane Katrina. Each should soon receive information about the FOGI business program.

Representatives from FOGI and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center plan to meet individually with business representatives at the Grand Isle Community Center on Friday, January 26, 2007. The event is divided into three identical programs, each beginning with a 30 minute presentation about the program. Click Here for details

Businesses can then choose if they wish to participate in FOGI’s grant/no-interest loan/technical assistance projects. If they do choose to participate they will be given an opportunity to meet privately with a business counselor from the LSBDC to discuss and complete the loan/grant application process.

These identical programs will start at 9 a.m. and repeat at noon and 3 p.m. Plan to arrive about 15 minutes prior to one of these start times. We will have a Continental breakfast available for people at the 9a.m. program. A number of advisors will be available that day to help businesses through the grant, loan or technical assistance process.

This is a signature only loan/grant program and will not require a business plan, financial statements, tax returns or collateral.

Grand Isle businesses should RSVP by calling 504/568-8222 or 337/262-5344 by Friday, January 19, 2007.
